This was NOT a High Performance Athletic Co. (HipAthletic) conducted event. However, if it were, the measurements would have still been exact, accurate and published accordingly. Our high standards of ethics, unquestionable conduct and best practices approach to the sport of Pole-vaulting is the only way we work at High Performance Athletic Co.
The South Jersey Track Coaches Association (SJTCA) rented the facility to hold the Pole vault competition. Please check our website www.HipAthletic.com for additional dates of SJTCA competitions.
The SJTCA conducts the event and obtains the NJSIAA Officials for the competitions. The height was measured & certified by the NJSIAA event Official. Accordingly, there is no question that Danielle O’Reilly cleared 12’10â€Â

Tom,
I wouldn't worry about one idiot with there own agenda. You have all levels of jealousy with our sport, normally it comes out as competiveness and drive, but sometimes its accusation. The next thing you will hear is all you guys are on drugs. When you think about it, it could be the ultimate compliment, you know your doing something right when people make accusations. You guys do a great job and with the right ethics. I wouldn't worry too much about one uninformed individual. If they want to take issue with me for my comments, please feel free. LON

First, congratulations to Danielle, second my apologies to this fine athlete for having to put up with this argument on this post. The purpose of all athletics is to excel and improve, in the pole vault it can be tough to break pr's at first, but usually when a breakthough occurs, it can be dramatic. I have seen pr's broken by 2 feet before in a single season, high school age athletes are prone to this type performance. A few years ago we had an eighth grade male go from 12'3" to 14'6" in about 2 months. How about we just give Danielle the props she deserves for working hard and producing a great jump. I bet she does it again and then betters her mark. Danielle, jump high.
compete and jump safe, have fun

Congratulations Danielle!
And here are my opinions for what they are worth:
1st
If this was a state meet where the height numbers were "miscaclulated" by the officials then pretty much everyone in the large schools division should have had an outstanding end to their year.
2nd
I've seen kids go 12" to 18" over their best height at a meet at the beginning of the season and never hit it again the rest of the year. Last year, one kid went 3 heights over his PR at a meet and never got those heights or did it again for the rest of the season. For one brief shining moment everythng came together and the results were outstanding! For that matter, I've seen the same at Earl Bell's when his teaching abilty comes together with a kid's athletic ability over the course of a weekend. Bell's also has the largest collection of useable vaultpoles I've seen, and it occurs to me that the right pole at the right time often equals success. Conversely, the wrong pole sure takes the fun out of a meet, especially one where the pressure is so high anyway.
3rd
I've worked meets as an assistant and as the official in charge of the event for HS/AAU/USATF and I've always double checked heights, the box, and other standard settings so that I don't end up looking like an idiot when someone breaks a school record, much less a state record where the requirements for certification are much higher. I have seen meets where the bar was accidently placed on the height just cleared , and the competetiors brought it to the attention of the offical pretty quickly!
4th
I watched the MO state meets in 2003 where a freshman girl from Jeff City wiped out the other girls in 3A by more than a foot, and a 12'+ 2003 freshman boy I know personally will probably top 14+ feet this year. It happens, but it just has to be your day. A good coach who knows what vault is about, the right pole, and some actual work on the athletes part often improves those odds dramatically. It doesn't hurt to not be injured either, or wiped out from a previous event.
and Finally,
I'm pretty sure New Jersey or wherever this girl or the folks at H.I.P. are from has stalking laws, because this person sure seems to have a lot of seriously near personal information and the desire to do a lot of research, but doesn't seem willing to identify him/herself. Even the Username seems to infer a certain level of jealousy or pettiness whereas most people who post want a "cool name" to go by. I don't know the answer, but this whole series of posts completely bewilders me, and I would suggest to RBgirl that "guests" are not allowed to post unless valid userinfo is presented to her. Nowadays, being an anonyamous poster is often akin to "wow, now I can easily send hatemail". Do you honestly think a meet official(s) makes enough money or is so dumb as to incorrectly set heights on purpose or by simply not caring? I think that this guy/gal proves out the old addage that every village has at least one . . .
I apoligize to everyone else for the soapbox posting, but I'm middle aged now and this type of behavior makes me grumpy.

RBgirl, you said the magic word. "throwaway" is so common in our world today it's not even funny.
How do you decide between accepting posts from what could be a high school kid whose only connection to the internet is a Yahoo account and the PC in the school library and someone who just gets a "throwaway" account to use it for malacious means? As a network admin, I've seen people plot their "escape" plans for leaving the company, and messages that contain almost pornographic material regarding coworkers and bosses passed through the company by the utilization of these "free" email addresses. It may be the far reaching WWW, but it's all recorded somewhere, that why they call it an audit trail.
So, to the poster here's a clue. The addresses are traceable if one wants to pursue it, and if you don't believe me just send a threatening email to www.whitehouse.gov and see what happens. If it's serious enough, the secret service response time to target near a major city is only about 30 minutes now. And "free" speech is not really free. There are slander and libel laws that are pretty much universal in the U.S. once the source is identified. Who needs a scholarship to go to college when a trust fund set up from the legal settlement would work just as well?

I'm nobody and my two cents is ......This is great reading Becca , write a book on all the different views and personalities ( I'll settle for 10%).
You can see what side of the fence people are.
This site gets more interesting everyday, whether it be funny or informational. PV is getting more popular than it use to. I' m a vaulter from the 60's and your site is great.
What ever reason yeah right had, right or wrong , he or she created an interest and not boring. Maybe that 's what he or she had in mind, to see what people would write.
right or wrong?

He's right. Ideal with this all the time in my work. We provide free webpages for teachers, and we get the occasional bogus page that says "mr smith sux" and all that. From time to time we get bomb and death threats as well. In these cases we can track the internet address of the poster and turn it over to the police, who then follow up with the ISP of the idiot, who keeps track of who's connected to the internet through them, when they were, and where they are. We've even had a couple of our employees subpoenad to appear in court and testify about our tracking methods when kids have been prosocuted.
The moral of this story is that they can find out who you really are and will enforce the law if you break it.
