It seems one thinks sarcasm is the best approach to solving this problem, but it might be more of a mechanical problem. My first thought is that you are at a school that has a limited selection of poles; a problem unfortunately shared by many schools. To hold 14" down on a pole is almost futile. The flex capability is greatly effected and quite frankly I'm surprised you're "blowing through" the pole. Hey, to vault 12' on a 14' pole, even holding at 12' 10" (14' minus 14"), is no great feat. If available to you, a 13' or 13' 6" pole would get the pole to vertical faster and more penetration. This also means, however, that you'll need to go to a heavier pole; say 165-170lbs. Safe vaulting is all about getting the pole to vertical and into the pit. There may be that one unfortunate vault where one "loses it", but let's keep it to a minimum with good vaulting technique and sense. Hey, if you don't already run the hurdles, then you're not accustom to wiping out; the falls are more numerous, just lower to the ground.

Thank you those that applied. My coach and I tried to fix what was wrong and determined that it was due to my "squat technique". I tended to run low to the ground, have low hands during the plant, didn't jump up at take off, and let my bottom hand basically hit me in the face during the plant. I spent all last week trying to fix my run and plant and didn't swing up once during practice and with the same pole, the 14' 160, that I landed on the box with, I ended up hitting the bar on the way up twice, and had to move my standards to 75 cm. "It seems one thinks sarcasm is the best approach to solving this problem" I for one would appreciate it if you could detail the sarcasm you are alluding too.

Please check out my latest jumps last Saturday with the same 14' 160 pole. I worked on a lot of things this past week and bettered my run, take off and plant. This was the same pole that I landed in the box with but now I actually had standards at 75 cm!

Hi,

It looks to me that when you are about to start your plant you slow down and take a slightly longer stride.

"Can you post a link to "the chart"?

Becca posted it somewhere the other day - I have it in the back of BTB2. It is critical that vaulters and coaches know this information- too many accidents being caused because folk are trying to transition to the wrong poles. Second biggest problem is over gripping in an attempt 'make/win" the regionals, states etc.
