I think the best part was how happy she was..... Back to having fun again. A lesson all vaulters can learn. Enjoy what your doing let heights take care of themselves. PR's will come when you just let them happen.

I haven’t had time to do many of these lately (I actually have a personal life these days), but here’s a quick translation of a short interview from the All-Russian Athletics Federation (VFLA) website, RusAthletics.com:

Gift from Isinbaeva
24.02.2012
Yelena Isinbaeva in an exclusive interview with Rusathletics.com said that she dedicates her record-breaking jump to all men - defenders of the Fatherland.
The two-time Olympic champion in the pole vault established her 28th world record, clearing 5.01 in Stockholm.
- Lena, congratulations on your victory!
- Thank you very much. I’m very happy. It’s not for nothing that I plowed all year like the damned. It’s not for nothing that Yevgeniy Vasilevich (Trofimov) again believes in me. Before the start I told my coach that I would make him a gift on 23 February. Said and done.
- What was your aim for this competition?
- The goal was to become the world leader for this season, therefore initially I was focused on 4.92. My fitness was good, and I was very confident in myself. I had not even a shadow of doubt that this would come about. I wasn’t even nervous.
- Why then the initial height of 4.72, taken on the second attempt?
- I, like always, waited a very long time for my turn. Before my first jump I’d spent an hour and a half in the sector. I took a soft pole, and thus the first attempt failed. I wasn’t at all panicked; I was certain that today was my day. On the second attempt I easily cleared the initial height. Afterwards I took 4.82 on the first. I made two unsuccessful attempts at 4.92. I collected myself, and on the third attempt everything worked out.
- You had no thoughts of stopping there?
- On the contrary. I had so much excitement, I woke up. Fighting spirit; my primary goal had already been achieved, my form was good, and I was revved up. On the second attempt everything worked out and I cleared 5.01.
- What's Next?
- For the next two weeks I can exhale and prepare for the World Championships. I want to say a big thank you to VFLA President Valentin Vasilevich Balahnichev and the trainers’ council, who trusted me, support, and always come to meet me.* I understand how difficult it was to decide whether to allow me to skip the Russian championships in favor of Stockholm, and I’m glad that I’ve justified this confidence. The world record — it is a gift to all of our wonderful men. I really needed to compete against those with whom I’ll compete in Istanbul, but I will perform before the Russian fans for sure. I promise.

Isi looks like she spent more time training this year and less time trying to be a supermodel or celebrity. It's paying off for her!
