nike pole vault spike issue

Unread postby PhotoVaulter » Sat Dec 10, 2011 2:18 am

I need new spikes. I was vaulting in the Reebok Global LJ/PV and went through two pairs of them from my senior year of high school to now (my senior year of college). They weren't bad, but the bottom of my current pair has been falling apart since last year and has to be held together by tape during competition.

In an effort to take some initiative, I purchased a pair of Nike PV II in what I thought was the right size online. I was way excited to try them on when they showed up, until I couldn't get my foot in them. Like, I know they are supposed to be snug based on the reviews I found, but so snug that I can't even get my foot in them? That seems a bit weird. Do other people have this issue? Did they size up or end up having to cut part of the opening in order to get their foot in? I'm debating returning the shoes and sizing up, but that would mean I'd need a size 6, and size 6 doesn't seem to exist except for the newest version of the PV II, which is a lot more than I can afford currently.

Fast forwarding to now, my coach has said that ordering through the college means I can get a 40% discount on Adidas merchandise. What I'm mainly wondering is if Adidas vault spikes are worth it, or even what to get as there seems to be several different versions of their jump spikes and from what I have read online. I think Yelena and Jen jump in one of the kinds of Adidas jump spikes, but I've read that the ones Yelena uses are Triple Jump shoes, and that those are a good alternative to vault shoes because they're very similar? I also hesitate to get them when I can't try them on.

I'm already being a mental basket case about vault right now and shoe decisions are making it worse. If someone could help me out in regards to the Nike PVs or recommendations for the Adidas shoes/shoes in general, that would be fantastic.

probable the last thing that you need is one more shoe type, but I jump with Asics Turbo Jump and I love them. But they have very good heal support for when you need it and a comfortable toe box. Shoes are very personal, good luck.

Make sure you have the laces all the way loose and the first time you kind of have to squeeze your foot in there. If you absolutely can not fit it then you may need a bigger size, or if your toes are curled up in the end. But they do stretch slightly as you use them if they are just snug. But you definitely should not have to cut the shoe.

Do not panic! Simply return the shoes for a refund and order some Adidas through college and apply the 40% to the total and you should be able to get some killer spikes. I would say anything is better than something you have to tape together or cut to get your foot into. Hit the local running shoe store and try some adidas shoes to get an idea as to how they fit before ordering online. Stay away from sharp objects.
