TWU Spartans Sign Victoria Pole Vaulter

LANGLEY, British Columbia –Trinity Western University track and field coach Laurier Primeau is excited to announce the signing of pole vaulter and sprinter Alex Love of Victoria, B.C.

The 5-foot-11, 160-pound Love comes to the Spartans after winning a bronze medal in men’s pole vault at the 2011 B.C. High School Track and Field Championships where he had a personal best vault of 4.12m, a height that would have place him sixth at this year’s Canada West Track and Field Championships. In the process, the Oak Bay Secondary graduate also helped his school win both the men’s team title and the overall team championship with a seventh place finish in the decathlon (5240 points), a sixth place finish in the 4x400m relay (his team’s best time was 3:36.93), a 13th place finish in the long jump (his best jump was 6.06m) and a 13th place finish in the 110m hurdles (his best time was 17.60).

Love has posted a personal best of 11.80 in the 100m dash and was part of a 4x100m relay team that has posted a time of 43.58.

He also recently received the award for Juvenile Athlete at the Year from the Victoria Track and Field Club.

“Alex comes from one of the most decorated high school track and field programs in B.C.,” Primeau said. “As such, we know he already understands the expectations of excellence and team contribution that are required for success at the post-secondary level. The fact he can help demonstrate those qualities to others is a huge asset to our young program as we try to establish our own identity in the CIS.

“He also has done a masterful job of combining his athletic ability with his academic efforts. He has an entering grade point average of 4.3, and we are confident he will progress both as a vaulter and a scholar at Trinity Western.”

Love graduated from Oak Bay with a dual dogwood, for completing French immersion, and did so with honours with excellence.

“I am very privileged to have been given the opportunity to study at such a highly regarded academic school, which will no doubt provide me with the knowledge to further my studies at the post-secondary level,” said Love, who plans to study biology and chemistry. “I am also very excited to be able to continue my track and field career at the varsity level with TWU in hopes that someday I will get the opportunity to represent my country.”

Love joins a burgeoning Spartans track and field and cross country team that includes incoming recruits Hazel Ross (high jumper and hurdler; Bishopton, Renfrewshire), Hayley Stewart (long jump, triple jump, relays and combined events; Surrey, B.C.), Jake Powrie (decathlete; Vancouver, B.C.), Eric Dupuis (long jump and triple jump, Myrnam, Alta.), Dylan Kelso (long jump and sprints, Nanaimo, B.C.), Fiona Benson (cross country and distance running; Dawson Creek, B.C.), Blair Johnston (cross country and distance running; White Rock, B.C.), Katelynn Ramage (cross country and distance running; Nanaimo, B.C.) Emma Nuttall (high jump; Edinburgh, Scotland) and Callum Innes (sprint and hurdles; Glasgow, Scotland).

Ogden to walk on at Nebraska

Grand Island Senior High’s Aaron Ogden will walk on for the Nebraska track and field team.

Ogden will participate in the pole vault for the Huskers. He will join seven in-state recruits in the pole vault on the Husker program, which includes Aurora’s Beau Simmons.

This past season, Ogden vaulted a personal-best 15-feet, good enough for a second-place finish in Class A.

Reisa Saddoris graduate of Spring Creek High School in Spring Creek, Nevada has recently signed a letter of intent to Pole Vault for Iowa Western for the 2011-2012 season. Reisa took the Nevada 3A State Championship in the Pole Vault with a vault of 10'00" her career best is 10'6". Iowa Western is very excited to add her to our team and look forward to seeing her excel academically and athletically for us.


David Green committed to Pole Vault for the Reivers in 2011-2012 season. We are very lucky to get an athlete like him to come in and compete for us. Pole Vault has been a weeker area for the Reivers. We look forward to what he can contrubute to the team.
