Pit Cover
I need a serious all weather pit cover. Do you have any suggestions? Is there a brand that you know lasts? If I spend the money on one, I want it to last for years. We bought a tarp this last season, but it had completely disintegrated by the end of the season, leaving our pit wet and soggy. (not good). I saw a thick rubber one at the University of Wisconsin- Madison. Is there much difference between covers?

Re: Pit Cover
Usually the one the manufacturer made for your pit is best/easiest because it will fit and the clips will line up.

From my days in the water bed industry. Thicker is not better when it comes to viynl. The industry standard is puncture resistance, typically listed by psi. The thickness gives you the weight but has no connection to the durability or life span.
Most thicker vinyls typically become brittle much quicker, especaially when exposed to the sun like a weather cover.
I guess, just like any other product, you get what you pay for.

I have 3 covers from Buck Terrell Athletics for 5 years outside in south Georgia, where the temp gets 110- No brittleness or splitting !!!!

Re: Pit Cover
Sorry Charlie (you oldre guys/gals will get that one)
I was not making a negative comment about any particular brand. I was just sharing some knowledge by commenting on your "thinner not as good " statement. In reality the thinner (within reason) viynl is better than a thick. The color is a huge factor as well regaurdless of the thickness.
I would hope a weather cover would last 5+ years, I have had the same one for 12+ years. Its a little faded but still keeps the water off. Several companies offer a 10 year warranty so if it wont last at least that long it would be a bad deal for them and a hassel for the school.
