Wisconsin State Records (as is the case with South Carolina) are referred to as what has happened at the state meet.

State Records:
Boys: Dan Novak; 15' 8"
Girls: Liza Lewis, 12' 6"

All time bests:
Boys: Todd Verbick, 16' 7"
Girls: Jenny Soceka, 13' 0"

Casey Carrigan is clearly a stud.

Arguably the best jumper in WI history could be a couple of guys:
Kim Scott, jumped 16' 0.75" (4.90m) in 1973
Brett Dames, jumped 16' in 1976
and then there is Todd Verbick--he is an interesting case; he actually has my HS record at 15'6", but then there are records of him jumping 16' 7" at the Arcadia Invite the summer after his senior year... I know in college, if you compete the summer after your senior year, the marks are still good for the school since it is the same 'season' ...does this apply to HS you think?

I know lots of people have different views on competition the summer after senior year. I think once you have graudated from your HS you should not be able to set a school record for that HS. Maybe an age group record or even your HS record with an *, but a high school record should be held by someone who was representing their HS and still a student at that HS at the time of the record setting event. Same thing with someone who is not on the team (maybe a falling out with the coach) they can't set a school record even though they are at that school. OK just my .02

Track and Field News recognizes marks set through August 31st of an athlete's senior year. NFHS does not. Each state has different guidelines for what they will and won't count.

In Oklahoma you have to be vaulting in Oklahoma and for your high school for it to count as a state record.
