Mondo Duplantis WR?

Unread postby golfdane » Mon Jul 05, 2010 1:20 am

Mondo competed in the World Youth Games (Världsungdomsspelen) in Gothenburg, and won in what must be a new WR, 3.84m.
He competed in the boys 13 age group.

I got video, but won't be able to process it until tonight.

1 Armand Duplantis 98 SWE IK Stål 384
2 Urho Kujanpää 97 FIN Tampereen Pyrintö 305
3 Niklas Svanberg 97 SWE Stenungsunds FI 292

Big brother Antoine, jumped 3.29m in the boys 14 age group.

Now, did he compete barefoot or does his daddy make him wear shoes outside of Louisiana? :D

He wore shoes :)
He wore what appeared to be an old pair of suede sprint shoes.

His dad showed me some cool little spikes he had made for him when I saw them at the University of Houston earlier this year. Bubba

Andreas explained the jump. the biggest pole mondo had was too soft so they moved up his step to be a little under so he could work the pole. it worked. greg wasn' t in sweden ,they did this on their own.

Hey, it's a decent strategy. I find myself doing it a lot these days cause I rarely have the right pole. It sucks, but just imagine mondo on the RIGHT POLE ;) I can't wait til he fully develops. I wonder if there'll be a new family record in a few years. -6P

Wow. yea you have to improvise on strategy when you run out of pole sometimes. But i can see why. Mondo looks like a bullet down the runway for only 13!

Mondo is only ten! He turns 11 on Nov 10, 2010.

As RG said ... on that jump, he set the WR for 10, 11, and 12-year-olds! He was competing in the 13-year-old group.

Way to go Mondo!
