Pole Vaulters Beware Georgia Tech
Interesting story I heard about a group of Georgia Tech Vaulters training to do some off season training on campus...
As you know, Hand-Stand Pushups (HSPUs) are a great way to build strength, so the group was doing a set of HSPUs in the fitness center, then were told they were too 'dangerous' and should not do them at all. The group went to the indoor track to resume the workout, then the police were sent to evict them!!
GA-Tech brought in a "Safety Expert" to evaluate the problem and sent the following:
Recently, a risk management audit was performed at the CRC by an expert in the field of Campus Recreation. During this audit, we reviewed policies/procedures that frequently need to be addressed in the facility. Based on recommendations by the risk management auditor, we will not allow handstand push-ups of any kind (against the wall or holding an individual's feet) in the facility. We will begin to enforce this policy immediately and ask for your cooperation.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Michael Edwards or me.

This is absolutely ridiculous.

Sounds like they are getting ready to ban football, gymnastics, baseball, crutches, wheelchairs and all bicycles on campus.
BTW, I had the opportunity to visit with Bill Singhose on the campus of GT recently. What a cool place!

I guess tomorrow they will ban chewing gum and walking, and will possibly ban breathing next week...

my sentiments exactly... why get rid of a few exercises that are beneficial to a pole vaulter just because they are "high risk"?? If handstand pushups are done correctly, the risk of injury is minimised.

Re: Pole Vaulters Beware Georgia Tech
You know whats going to happen now. All the G Tech vaulters are going to have the hugest push off the top of there poles in the country, because there going to be doing handstand push ups all day long at home to spite of the rules, just like any good vaulter would.
How lame is somebody who calls the cops on you for trying to exercise. No wonder this country has so many ridiculously fat people in it.
