ok what if i wanted to be jumping 17s should i still get the 15'1 170lb pole or the 16'1 160lb?

Yes. It will take a lot more than 1 pole to get from 14' 6" to the 17' range.

If you want to be jumping 17' then go with the 15' 170lb first. I agree with previous posters... power before length. when you get on the pole that is 30+lbs over your weight, then bump the length.
And Kirk, good addition on the "broke in" comment. Poles definitely do not get "broken in" and they also do not need to be "warmed up". I saw a kid "warming up" his pole last week...flexing the heck out of it without jumping on it... who teaches this stuff?? I also find it interesting how many kids race off the mats after they tap a bar without it falling....another subject, another time... anyway...

i dont have a 15' 170 i only have a 15' 180lb carbon and a 16'1 160lb spirit.

yes...depending on flex though. Try them both, but I'd keep the handgrip down at 15. Its a 15lb jump, which is a bit much, but it sounds like the best you've got to work with.

You don't need a new pole you need to learn how to use what you have.
Step 1 - Accurately mark your pole in 1" increments so that you know exactly how long it is and exactly where you are gripping at all times.
Step 2 - Lower your grip to 14'
Step 3 - Jump with the 14' grip and your standards on 32". If you are "blowing through" then shorten your approach by 2 steps. Keep shortening your approach by 2 steps until you are no longer "blowing through" gripping 14'.
Step 4 - Work on jumping off the ground and swinging faster until you can jump 15' gripping 14'. This is not that difficult to do if you are under 5'10".
Step 5 - When you can clear 15' gripping 14' then raise your grip 3" and keep jumping until you can clear 15'6".
After you can clear 15'6" gripping 14'3" then you can think about a new stiffer 15' pole.
