Re: huffman roll
Interesting ... and nicely done ... but I think his "Colwick C" is even more interesting.
I'm going to assume that he's not PURPOSELY dragging the lead knee ... and wants to follow the Petrov Model.
If that's the case, I'd focus more on fixing the takeoff than goofing off with the Huffman Roll.
It's actually amazing that this is his PR! Think of how high he'd be going if he focussed on what's REALLY important ... rather than these 2 "gimmicks".
Note: If he's truly an up-and-coming Colwick Model vaulter, then I retract calling it a gimmick. I'm just not sure. Is it your dad that's coaching him? What's the coach's intent, and what's the vaulter's intent re these 2 gimmicks?
And as far as the Huffman Roll is concerned, I don't think that's anything that anyone should shoot for. For a 14-foot high-schooler, it's a gimmick.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think even Huffman ever trained for it ... he just DID it sometimes.
IMHO, I think if it's something that you're spending valuable training time on, then you're neglecting all of the more important aspects of your vault ... especially since the HR is a top-half-of-the-vault technique, and not a bottom-half technique. He should be focussing on the BOTTOM-HALF!
Mostly why he's able to do the HR is becuz he's flagging out ... BADLY. With a better bottom-half, he wouldn't be flagging out nearly so bad.
Said in the opposite way, if you have a good Petrov takeoff and swing, then you won't be flagging out ... and you won't have any need (or ability) to do the HR. I'm sure that Scott Huffman ... and his devout followers ... might argue this point, but it's just my opinion.
If you don't agree with that, then perhaps we can at least agree that the HR is an extremely technical ELITE technique that shouldn't be practiced by high-schoolers ... even tho in this case he seems to have cleared 14-0 with it ... amazingly well!

Re: huffman roll
well this was actually a video of him last year.... that was the only time hes ever huffman rolled.... it was a fluke. At the time it was a PR for him but he has jumped 15 this year, however his pr should be more around 15'8. As for the colwick thing, he has never done it since. that was a really weird day for him. He has a drive knee and a trail leg now but he tucks at the top
Its because he always drives in nicely and finds himself underneath the bar and just shoots striaght up the pole. I will try and find a video of him this year...

Re: huffman roll
It was amazing that Cody did the Huffman Roll and the Colwick C in a PR-breaking jump last year ... and it's even more amazing that he's eliminated those 2 gimmicks from his repetoire this year!
In fact, it's pleasantly surprising!
