Honestly, if you want to run, run. You won't lose your sprinting abilities, but try to run some short speed workouts on a light day. In high school I ran the 800 and vaulted during the same meets, and it wasn't ideal, but I managed to do okay. Cross is a really fun team environment and it's worth doing just for that experience.

I actually came back much faster this year...I'm going to go with the fact that maybe I'm just the exception.
Mentally I'm not there yet in the vault, a lot of problems with anxiety that aren't letting me plant and jump.
Everything is there initially on the ground but when it comes time to plant I bail out.
Speed wise I'm probably faster than I've ever been in my whole life (and much more conditioned as well).

I never met a pole I didn't like.
