Finally figured some stuff out. I think. But it's on a meet day and big poles became what seems to be a small pole. I think the first take-off is better than the second but the trail leg still breaks a bit. I think my chest drive looks good and I have a good split. This should finally allow me to get on a bigger stick.

hye Tyler,
overall looks really good...
but your still stretching... quite a bit on the first .. on the second it was more on the last step...
the stretch is a big part of the reason you penetrate deep and flat..
i suggest "tighter" steps, which should lead to better, up right posture... with the hips "under" and in a vertical line with the body..
then you can quicken the last step.. takeoff further out.. reach higher, have a better impluse and swing fast...
i know it may sound like "voodoo.." but the correct posture and impulse, which is set up by the last few steps on the run, tend to "clean-up" the issues you see you are having and pole size...
I have said before, most of the time a bad, “stretched”, run will make even a big pole feel to soft and over bend.

Whatever you did to get from point A to the point you are at right now, keep at it, because its working!! Your hips don't get nearly as sucked under the pole as they did before. Part of this is because you are finishing your take off better, and your last few steps (like DJ said) will keep this improving.
This will make the pole you were on for your last jump feel like a 4-step pole. I would assume you would be able to move up 15 Ib's and 6" of pole as you figure these things out.
So to be clear:
1.) make sure you let the pole drop accelerate you for your last 6 steps
2.) be tall and quick your last 6 steps, with your feet striking directly underneath you.
3.) (the first two will allow you to) jump UP and keep your hips in line with your hands after you take off.
I'm impressed with the quick improvements you are making. Keep it up!

these are good "mental” pictures of what needs to happen.. and are all physically interrelated...
'check your 6 step “mid” (have your coach or friend) and see how it correlates on good, average to bad jumps..
Mainly to see where you can be and not stretch any steps and “extend” at the plant takeoff…

There is a good drill to help fix that. It involves placing a piece of foam 1 or 2 feet infront of your optimum take off, then taking the jump up with it. I t puts you in a mindset to speed up those last few steps, but this has to be repatitive to permanently fix the issue.

That drill will help, but take a look at your 4 steps especially. The problem stems from your hands being late on your plant. You don't start bringing your hands up until 2 steps before take off. Ideally they should start coming up 3-4 steps before. If you move your hands earlier, your feet are going to speed up. It will feel really awkward and won't be a quick fix, but if you try it with some 3-steps or low grip 4-steps, you will feel what i'm talking about. That kind of plant is something to keep working at throughout the year. But still, much better on your take off. It's coming along still.
