2010 USATF Zone Junior Olympic Indoor Track & Field Championships
After increased participation in 2009, USA Track & Field’s Junior Olympic Indoor Zone Championships will return for 2010. Four (4) meets will be conducted over weekends in February.
Indoor Zone meets provide our young athletes a competitive opportunity to remain active and tune-up during the winter months. They are also a great component to our already successful Junior Olympic program which currently includes outdoor Track and Field and Cross Country.
All youth age-eligible, USATF members are welcome to participate.

they put the championships in some hard to reach places for a lot of people. poor choice in locations especially for the south but thats just my 2 cents..

Well there aren't many indoor tracks in the south, so it's pretty tough...

i know but i just think a lot more people would have probably ended up turning out had it in been in say alabama or somewhere thats kind of in the middle for everyone. especially since most of the states south of say north carolina and tennessee have no indoor in hs.

Not many indoor tracks in Alabama... and you have to find an organizing committee willing to volunteer hundreds of hours to make it happen.
Unfortunately, what is ideal is not always feasible.

You can say that again. :/ It would at least be nice to maybe one day see colleges step up a little more around here in the south and try to help out hs kids who want to run track during indoor seasons.

Re: 2010 USATF Zone Junior Olympic Indoor Track & Field Champion
We have a small indoor season here in Arkansas. The University of Arkansas hosts an indoor meet the 2nd Saturday in January every year. It's open to high school kids from every state. The Arkansas Track Coaches Association rents their facility and hosts an invitational (Arkansans only) then hosts our indoor state championships. We are responsible for hosting and running off the meet.
The bottom line is that your state association or coaches association needs to contact the colleges in your state and go through the proper channels to make something happen. We simply look at Arkansas' indoor schedule and then schedule our events on available weekends. It's a win-win situation for them because some of the best high school talent in the state will be competing in their facility and they also make a little money off of the rental without having to do any work themselves.

Well we were supposed to have a meet in clemson the 5th of december after a college meet the day before but they decided that working on their track couldn't wait a day and cancelled the high school meet :/ every other meet thats within 6 hours of me seems to be a conflict with something else (niswonger-SAT) but i'm not gonna complain any more on this track season starts tomorrow
