True, but PP has a tendency to over-train. I'm just suggesting that "under-training" isn't something to feel guilty about. The problem with working out this week as long as his body "feels good" is that he won't actually feel something go in his back until it actually goes. By then, it's too late to back off. In other words, he shouldn't push his body to the point where it hurts ... even if it's just light pole runs or light highbar work to "test" how he feels.

It's a lot of on-the-spot analysis in terms of how much I train on a given day...

For example, today I felt a bit of a tweak in my left hammy warming up... I did hardly anything at all, 95% was walking. If I hadn't felt a tweak, I would've done some more jogging/running plants.

Tomorrow will be a day to work (as long as I feel up to it). It's perfect in the schedule too... I'll have a good opportunity to get some film of my vault (in the sand, but still a vault) and work on keeping a strong body after take-off... As strange as this sounds, I probably have a higher 3 step sand vault than a 5 step pit vault... We'll work on it.

I just know that something will click soon and things will ALMOST magically improve. Maybe that's this Saturday, maybe it's not. I don't know. But it's coming...

How was the chiropractic adjustment? Have you been many times? Do you find it helpful?

Chiro's been amazing. I just need to be more conscientious of my preventative care/maintenance care... I'm a big sloucher for instance!

I've been more than a dozen times. It's really worked, HIGHLY recommended, as long as they take a scientific approach.

My hips are back in line now... I shouldn't have piriformis trouble for a while, but I'll stretch it out a bit extra just in case.

A very bad day in the life of PP42...

Here's my new plan:

Sometime soon - Get my knee scoped.

We were using a sand pit that hadn't been used for a while, so we had just raked it out and digged it up before using it. The sand was of course much harder than what we normally use. Warmed up, felt okay... Did a 1, a 2, a 3... Then did a vault from 3... I was gripping probably upwards of 12' actually (very happy about that, especially since the sand was shallower!) and had a vault up above my grip... I would guess it was maybe around 12'6"-13'. Anyway, came down, landed in a bit of a hole/slant, and my ankle flared up. I hobbled away and nursed it for a bit, and then I realized that my knee (right knee*) was KILLING me. I walked up to the trainer's room... "Meniscus."

I didn't even get film of this jump... my camera got too cold to work! Lame!

 :(

Any experiences/advice worth sharing?

Good news: My knee might not be in such bad shape afterall... I'm extremely lucky. I'm definitely not going to the meet tomorrow, but things felt much better today. I did some bike and extensions and leg press, and squatting down and walking normal doesn't hurt so much anymore, it just feels weak. I'll be getting it looked at again on Monday... For now, light excersise, ice, ibuprofen, compression, and rest of course.

RICE.

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation.

Or in your case, maybe it's RIICE: Rest, Ibprofen, Ice, Compression, and light Excercise. ;)

I did not... I figured that'd be wayyy more than pushing the boundary of "smart".

However, I did vault on the pit today! 1-2 steps, most of them rather slow. Still got my 2 step grip up to about 11' (stiff pole). It felt very good, but just a bit weak... After my workout if I walked on uneven ground a certain way or squatted way down I got twinges, but nothing bad at all.

I'm still going to rest it, ice it, and all that good stuff... I'm going to do more work on the bar than on the track for a while until I'm sure it's ready for that intensity again. I'll probably wrap it from now on when I'm doing anything more than 3 steps.
