Re: jumping off the wrong foot?
I had this problem for most of my outdoor season. I found it very easy to undo the habit (easier than switching hands- which I tried), when an assistant coach showed me a quick and easy drill. Hold your pole a little lower than pop-up height, then find a soft, open space, take a three step, and then focusing on your correct foot, jump. It took a day or two of doing it over and over, but it beats relearning how to pole vault.

Alignment....
Ideally, the center of mass should be near or on the line between the top hand and your take-off foot. Unless you have a really weird posture during take-off, that is hardly possible (while pushing towards the bar), if your tophand and take-off foot is the same side.
I can hear Vincenzo Canali whisper in the background: Posture, posture, posture......

Re: jumping off the wrong foot?
i am also having this problem, i am a right handed vaulter who is now jumping off my right foot. i jumped 12 6 last year off my left foot, came back to practce late summer and can no longer vault into the pit off my left foot, even though its the only thing i am focusing on, my steps are for sure correct, i end up way under on my right foot though. i cleared 12 feet off my right foot but am really trying to break this bad habit. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions (i dont want to change hands) to get back to my left foot, i even take the extra step on a three step approach about half the time. something to think about while vaulting and some drills would be greatly appreciaed

its in your head... your probably trying to take off at the mat because you feel you are too far away from it. just find how long your run is when doing pole runs. then count your lefts and tell yourself to jump on last left. so 1...2...3...4...5..&..6..&.. Jump! (ands help with pole drop, you don't have to use them, They are rigths)
