funky weird tuck?

Unread postby KYLE ELLIS » Mon Nov 10, 2003 9:21 pm

ok me and my coach were watching film and i tuck my left and release my right, so its the opposite of normal. most peoples left is near straight and their right is tucked. what affects do you guys know of that results from the right knee releasing before the left while its still tucked? im a right handed vaulter. any help i would appreciate.

I'm just making a guess, but wouldn't your swing start to turn outwards from the added weight w/ the right leg? It's hard for me to imagine it cuz it sounds so weird. haha

Well your legs will look reallly funky at the top of your jump. But it might be taking energy away from your vault. Its kind of hard to say without seeing exactly how bad it is.

my swing does start to turn outwards, usually the better my jump the better my legs were to shooting at the same time. my coach says its killing my jump. right now im trying to bring my right knee back further and longer so when i shoot they will be closer(timing wise) i do it normally in pop-ups, but on a bent pole i do the opposite?

i know what you are talking about. I do the same thing. for me it is usually because i not getting lined up and waiting. I am usually trying to rush my jump and get off of the pole. when i do it i got about a foot less than when i line up and put my legs together. My coach told me it kills the jump because the poles energy is shooting to where your body is going, and since my leg is usually hangin down im sooting towards the bar and no up. it also causes me to fall really fast, instead of peaking over the bar i just shoot right past it or into it. Now if we could just fix it...

vaultin chris you hit! thats exactly what im talking about, im thinking i do it because my right knee isnt coming on the outside of my elbow so i have to straighten my right to close off. i think if i brought it outside my elbow my extension would be better synchronized. i have alot of work ahead, mostly repitition work to groove it in! :o sighhh

me and u both.
i do it the worst when i dont get penetration and try to shoot at the bar. usually when i get really good penetrationi can rock back and line up better, so maybe that could b one of your problems.
