Volz-in'

Unread postby bel142 » Tue Jul 07, 2009 12:12 pm

I am curious... This year I made it a goal to learn how to pull off the Volz. I tried and tried and tried with no luck, but here are some of my attempts, its illegal but when one gets a knee on the bar i feel there is some ability by the vaulter to push him/her self into the pit rather than rotating forward and fall back into the box. Here are my attempts, you are welcome to talk about my vault, but If anyone else has tried to cheat themselves, and has footage pulling it off I would enjoy seeing it.

We have all seen Hartwig and Harding do it. Is anyone else trying this or am I the only real nerd out there.

That kind of reminds me of this epic miss of mine. Im just glad it was at 15'6" and not 17'0".

You almost have it on your 17" attempt. I think the key is having the pole speed but not the room in front and behind the bar.... then with your hand you gotta keep it from leaving the pegs by bringing your hand up (as you go down) at just the right speed.

A terrible jump.... this is a classic example of coming out early. I felt like it i finished the jump i would come down on it. I just had some much hip motion early on that it was more than enough to make the hieght.

Volzing will not allow you to make a bar you did not get high enough to clear, but it will help you with bars that are too deep. You have to have a lot of height in front of the bar to have the time and trajectory to get your hand on it before it comes off. The trick is to have a sense of how you are going to hit the bar before you get there, and you have to be reaching for it with your left hand as soon as it comes off the pole. Once you get a grip on it, you have to be aware of where the middle of the bar should be and then simply place it at that point and let go. If done properly, you can bend a bar down by a foot and leave it up without a quiver. But it can take years to get to that point, and since it is an illegal move, I don't see how it could be productive to work on it. To me, it makes more sense to try to develop this level of awareness and control in other aspects of your vault, then make sure your standards are in the right place to start with.
