TRI-COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL TRACK MEET IN SENECA
High Schools from the Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens Counties participated in a track meet in Seneca. Jasmin Stowers of Pendleton won several races, as well as with teammates in relay runs.

SENECA — With the top three finishers in the pole vaulting competition, you might wonder how Seneca became such a dominant team in the event.

“They all pretty much grew up with a pole in their hands,” Seneca coach Tom Jordan said.

With that background, it was easy to see how Monday’s Tri-County Track Meet turned into a runaway for the host Bobcats. Seneca freshman Adam Doud cleared his first attempt at 13 feet, six inches to win the event, followed by junior Perry Rodgers at 13-6 with one fault, and senior John Doud at 12-6 in third place.

“Any points you get in the vault are like free points, because a lot of people don’t coach it,” said Jordan, a vaulter himself. “A lot of people don’t even have a vault. If you have three of our caliber, I’m sort of thinking maybe I’ll have three in the finals in the state meet.”
