His plant isn't quite getting all the way up before the pole hits the back of the box.

Tell him to quit landing on his feet!

Sound basic model of technique - and a pretty good athlete. Needs to run taller - especially in the first steps - get the left hand under instead of on top of the pole in the run- needs stronger right arm at the instant of hit - keep the left elbow outside rather than under pole at and after TO - keep the right knee driving from take off up and over his head - keep the left leg long ditto -begin the turn a fraction earlier so that he can interact with the pole better as it straightens.

Thanks Alan! I am trying my best to coach based on your book. Can you expand on "keep the left elbow outside rather than under pole at and after TO"? I have been trying to get him to punch up with the left arm right at takeoff to prevent him from collapsing in once he leaves the ground. Everything else I have been trying to work on except the beginning of the run and the pole carry. I will add those as well.

BTW, I really want to get you up to Minnesota one of these summers. We are in desperate need of a new PV pit and hopefully that will come next year and we can host you at the high school I coach at.
