How often do you guys get this?

So, in my sports med class today, my coach talked about the [very-very-very brief] history of pole vault and then said how Sergei Bubka would barely break his record...and my hand shot up and I said the world record and how, with video analyzation, scientists have said he probably could have cleared 6.40m and one of the girls in my class said, "HOW DO YOU KNOW ALL THIS STUFF!?" "...ummm....I pole vault!?" "Still..."

Granted, I get that about a lot of stuff, such as definitions and a variety of other things, but still. [I read the Reader's Digest as a 3rd grader...chapter books in the end of 1st grade...TEENY chapter books, but chapter none-the-less. I read a lot. My brain has a good memory.]

That said, I thought it was kind of funny

You should've seen the looks I got at SRU (a VAULTING CAMP) this Summer when I shot off random PV info like I often do on here.

I sometimes get the same thing.
But every vaulter, well, okay, NEARLY every vaulter, knows who Bubka is and/or how high he jumped.

I get the same...because I know so much information I'll start explaining it and a bunch of other stuff. It gets interesting.

Man...you should see the looks I get when I'm in the weight room...I do some inversion drills and some of the football people think I'm nuts
Then I explain what I'm doing and they still think I'm nuts [my friend described it as "you guys look like caged monkeys"] but they know what I'm doing.
It's kind of interesting to see all the track guys [minus distance and vaulters] warm up in the weight room, and then see one girl doing inversion drills and swing drills and such; basically flipping around the bars. [though not all the way around...]

well i currently have hooker's 3rd world record attempt from boston indoor games as the background on my phone and one time when i let my friend borrow my phone, they asked what it was, and i answered along with like a brief background of bubka, they then asked me how i know all that. i was just like, idk its a pole vault thing i guess

Dude, I give background on records and who people are and any funny/interesting stories I've heard. [Ex: Jeff Hartwig raising snakes/donating a reticulated python to a zoo, Hooker jamming a pole in the ceiling, etc...]
Interestingly enough, my friend already knew about how Hartwig bred snakes...her family is in the reptile business and she says, "it's a small world" so apparently, she heard from that side.

too much effort i've been working hard on standardized tests these past 3 days, wanna just tell me why my coach thinks that warmerdam is like the coolest pole vaulter ever? it was supposed to be pole vault homework to find out about a bunch of historical dudes, so i dont think asking him would work out, but hey doug if you're stalking this like you stalked our bumping here for some convo thread then feel free to answer
