I sort of slipped... I did not intend for him to go out and try it, but rather suggest that pushing is a BAD thing to do by offering some sort of argument like I did.

But I do wish agapit would come back publicly...

I might suggest to him that he does - IF you take KirkB's advice and stick to what you really know - and I say here that you do not know anything until you have either done it or coached a lot of athletes to do it. You are bright and enthusiastic but it you are not careful your over analysis will hurt your own vaulting performance -as it has others!! You are not heeding the quote from the Talmud below.

I hear you both... So I've edited the post in question and will stay quiet until I really have been there and done that.

I do try my hardest... I've got ~7 people on here that I'm 'coaching' all the time through extensive PM and e-mail... Unfortunately I can't get outside and jump myself because of my current nerve condition... So I'm stuck here at my computer screen! :crying:

PP, I edited my previous post "down to the bare bones".

Keep up the good work in advising some of the beginners on PVP!

Bubka said it himself," The pole bends as a result of the speed and mass of the jumper, therefore, it is more important to concentrate more on moving the pole towards the plane of the bar, rather than being aware of bending it. If the vaulter can put all his speed to the pole, the bending of the pole will happen in a very natural way and this, together with a good height of grip will ensure good results."

 Do you think this source is reliable? :P

As long as nothing is lost in the translation, I think Bubka is at least 0.09m more qualified to answer this question than anyone ... ANYONE ... else on the planet!

By "moving the pole towards the plane of the bar", he means "moving the pole to vertical". Just thought I'd add that, so that anyone searching for "moving pole vertical" will find this post.

Great quote, "Username?" ... whatever name that is! Maybe you just forgot to fill one in?

Quoted on P24 Btb2 where it is analysed and restated to make his meaning clearer - he said it at the jamaica presentation he gave in 2002.

Banter ...

Altius, lest you're not familiar with the facial icons, the "tongue" one represents sarcasm, or "tongue in cheek" (at least that's how I intended my use of it to be).

But thanks for the source! I kinda thought that it was quoted in that BTB2 book.

Hmm ... I wonder if THAT'S a reliable source. :P
