More than 30 pole vaulters from three states competed in the third-annual Blackberry Street Vault, a pole vault competition in downtown Coos Bay during the Blackberry Arts Festival.

Austin Ouderkirk of Newport had the best clearance of the day, getting over the bar at 15 feet to win the men’s 17-18 age group.

Catherine Street of Wilsonville cleared 12 feet to win the same age group for women. Local pole vaulters Lindsay Wright of Reedsport, Sammie Clark of North Bend and Dave Eckes of Coos Bay all won their divisions.

The masters portion of the event drew five vaulters over 45 years old. Of those, 51-year-old Louis Balcom of LaCenter, Wash., had the top mark, clearing 13 feet.

Terry Cannon of Springfield was the oldest competitor, at 71, and cleared 10 feet.

Greg Eckes of Coos Bay won the steel pole competition by clearing 10-6.

The age-group winners are listed in today’s Community Scoreboard.
