aw man!!! noooooooo, walker!!
Re: Men's Prelims Live Updates - Discuss Here Only!
Well, on the bright side there's a ton of young talent in the final. The way the event has been going for the past few years, we were on course to see somebody win OG and Master's gold in the same year.

13 to the finals is not unusual. There are rule guidlines on how many to advance in a vertical jumps qualifier event.
I was sure there were 14 in 2004, but I just looked it up and they actually took 16 to the finals. That's
a little high but had to be within their defined guidelines for that event at that time.

USATF:
Men's pole vault qualifying
Derek Miles (Tea, S.D.): "It was a long competition. I think one pit had it worse than the other. On our pit, everything was okay. I struggled a little bit out there at first. I'm feeling good. Today was a good learning lesson. I was coming around there at the end.
The stadium is pretty impressive. It's exciting. It feeds the overall energy which is great for the pole vault.

Soley on the basis of season's bests, here's the rankings for the finals ...
I didn't bother to break any ties by looking at PRs. That's where your subjectivity and jingoism comes in!
My bets ...
RUS LUKYANENKO Evgeny
AUS HOOKER Steve
GER HOLZDEPPE Raphael
Raphael has had a break-thru year, and isn't done yet, IMHO.
If not Raphael, then UKR YURCHENKO Denys for the bronze.

and the slaughter of the U.S. track and field team continues..... I still can't believe this, I though Brad was a medal lock for sure.
Re: Men's Prelims Live Updates - Discuss Here Only!
Pretty much anybody can take 3rd.
Can Pavlov break his perennial 4th place curse?
It'd be awesome if Holzdeppe got 5.85 and was all alone as the U20 WR holder.
I don't know if Miles has ever jumped higher than 5.75 outside of the US. but he can definitely do it if he gets on a roll.
Clavier jumped 5.75-5.80 multiple times indoor with plenty of height on his 5.80.
I just hope somebody passes word to Lukyanenko & Hooker that if one of them is alone after 6m to go for 6.08 instead of 6.06 to break their respective NRs. We NEED another 20-footer and 2 more cm will not make a difference!

Re: Men's Prelims Live Updates - Discuss Here Only!
While it would be great to see a thrid consecutive american gold in the men's vault, it has been my thought since he jumped 601 that Luky would win the gold...but it would be REALLY sick for Derek to drop a 580 and get on the podium.
PS not to be picky but--608 is 19' 11.25", 610 is 20'

Re: Men's Prelims Live Updates - Discuss Here Only!
Has anyone herd the scoop on what happen to Brad? Sounds like he came up short on this second and then blew through on the third? Pole change? Standards change? Wind change? Or did he just get after it and blew through. I like to think he just hit a great plant and crushed it?? Thoughts from peole who saw it?
Re: Men's Prelims Live Updates - Discuss Here Only!
I heard that Brad has entered a protest. Not sure on what grounds other than having to wait 2.5 hours before jumping with no warm-ups. I cant find anything about it online, but that's the word from Pat. I know nothing about the rules really so let's all hope and pray for him to make it in.
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.â€Â

Be picky. You are correct. I had 608 in my head because I'd received a phone call from that area code and didn't know where it was from (Madison, WI if you're curious). I'm old and get confused easily. Get off my lawn!
