But, the one point she can (potentially) score at conference got her a spot on the team. 8 feet scoring in a colleigiate conference meet......what is the southand conference coming to???

That's a pretty cold statement. The mere fact that she "made the team" doesn't automatically mean that she's receiving a scholarship!

And her 9 feet may be the result of more inherent skill, determination and willingness to train than any effort put forth by any other member of the team.

DONT TAKE THIS THE WRONG WAY BUT....................

Welcome to D-1 athletics, cut mens teams to bring on womens teams, give womens teams nearly double the scholarships, let the mens teams bring in the $$$ and call it equality. The NCAA need to figure out a solution to the #'s in football before track at the college leve is for the women only. The only thing saving most programs is they make up 2 sports in the #'s game, mens Indoor and Outdoor track are 2 different sports. Im not saying women dont deserve the opportunity, its that the current trend is just what I stated above, cut the men (or limit their #'s by having a max team size thats really low) and beef up the womens #'s. Thats not a solution its just a whole new problem, and its the reality of todays D-1 programs. Hit even worse is wrestling, swimming and gymnastics. I really feel sorry for them.

yeah there cutting all the olympic events which is a bunch of crap, something really needs to be done to fix this problem
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

Scholarships

Unread postby Tigerrrpv » Fri Jan 03, 2003 3:53 pm

Full Scholarships for vault are hard to come by. Normally Coaches look at more than just how high you go. They look at coachability, attitude among other things and where they feel they need strength on the team. Its not like sprints where you get a stud and they can score in 3 or 4 events at conference and nationals. I mean most vaulters can hang with the best of em but when it comes down to it the team is run like a business the more you can contribute the more money you get. But jumping 17 out of high school is definitely scholarship material it just depends on if you fit in anywhere. Just like a previous post 14 foot jumpers get scholarships sometimes when the 16'5 jumpers don't. I suggest working on academics that also helps get more attention from programs.

Okay folks, I have 2 student loans and there killing me I can’t seem to make the payments monthly. So is there a way I can consolidate them I’m so scared I really don’t know what to do. I told my parents I was paying them on time and I haven’t for a couple of months and I don’t want bad credit. I don’t know what to do. I feel irresponsible for lying to my parents and not paying my damn student loans. Please help me.

Unfortunately, the overall college loan situation is nearly as bad as the sub-prime mortgage debacle. There had been some serious misrepresentations made in the federal programs by some of the lenders, so things are not going well right now in the various programs. You specifically mention consolidating your loans when I would guess what you really mean is that you want to restructure your loans into something that you can better handle. The opportunity to do that depends upon the lender and what they are willing to do. My suggestion is that you call them up and honestly discuss your situation with them and see what they are willing to do. I would also suggest that you read all of the original agreements that you signed to see what flexibilities they have, if any. Sometimes the payments are deferred or at least the rate of interest is lower while you are in school. Make sure that the program you are currently on matches up with your current situation and that the lenders have it right. You mention talking to your parents. Are they co-signers on the loans? If so, as a party whose credit history is on the line, you owe it to them to give them the heads up right away so they have a chance to protect their credit history. Your late payments count against them just as if it was them failing to make payments on time, and once the damage is done its a lot harder to get it corrected. When all else fails, the best solution is to talk to the lender and make an arrangement with them. They would probably reluctantly accept some plan rather than charging it off (which would be a huge black mark on your credit that would take years to fall off and may even preclude you from obtaining other kinds of loans further down the road). Good luck

If gaining a college degree is your goal (which when entering Higher education it should be) then one might consider jumping at a school with good academics and community that might not be on the D1 level. I personally had ok sat scores like in the 900 I believe, and jumped 15's. I got a full ride to an NAIA school and just graduated with a B.S. in marketing. So it all depends on your focus. If you want to accredidation of becoming a D1 athlete by all means do it. But if you want a degree and still want to jump. Smaller schools have great scholarship offers too.

You might want to contact the Foreign Student Admissions Office at the schools you are interested in. It usually requires a lot of additional paperwork and tests like the TOEFL.
