Derek Miles is pacing around and making planting motions, so they have probably not yet decided about finals (which makes sense, there are still a lot in)

Looked like he blew through the pole.
He is pissed, of course.
It is now over 3 hours since the competition started.

At best we'll have one American in the final... and that may not be a one deal yet.

IAAF: 23:56
Now Hartwig has a third miss, so he'll join Walker, Lobinger, Averbukh, and Mesnil as part of the massacre of former medalists in tonight's preliminary.
23:53
And it's a miss for Walker. The World Champion has no-heighted in qualifying.
23:52
Here comes the third attempt for Walker.
23:49
A second miss for Burgess, and he comes down hard on his right ankle. Not the most comfortable landing at the box.
23:48
That will be a second miss for Liu. He'll need more fuel on his third attempt.
23:46
Feilang Liu of China is up for his second attempt at 5.65m. Jiaoyou! chants the crowd.
23:45
One of those still vaulting, of course, is World Champion Brad Walker. He has two misses at 5.65m, and since he entered at that height, he's so-far unranked.
23:42
There goes Clavier over, so now we have thirteen.
23:40
There are eleven men over 5.65m, as previously noted. There are still vaulters alive in Group A at that height, and if only one clears - and there goes Yurchenko, so now there are twelve - they may simply stop with those twelve as the finalists.

Liu out. Plenty of height but falls on it.
