free takeoff question.

Unread postby BadMotherVaulter » Thu May 15, 2008 9:32 am

So its something i've been working on.

From both 4 left and 5 left approaches, i can get a good free takeoff (and because of it, get a freakin massive swing) but i'm having trouble including it into my full approaches from 6-7 lefts. What do i do now?

I thought about maybe implementing the mid mark chart for me...
Or just doing my old tried and true method: "quit being a panzy and just freakin do it already"

P.S. when i have a video comparison, i'll post it.
suck it up.

Well both approaches will probably work, but the whole key is to make sure you have the pole in the position to do it. We commonly start shorter approaches with a much lower pole carry so moving the pole to the proper position is much easier. Look at dj's chart, look at the amount of time it takes to cover the last three steps, look at the time it takes a pole to free fall from a vertical carry, its eerie. Try starting your pole drop sooner and that very well may set you up perfectly to have the pole in the proper position for that free take off. Good Luck.
What is nice about this sport is that I am responsible for most everything.
