Building a high bar if anyone is interested

Unread postby Noah C » Sun Apr 27, 2008 6:13 pm

Well I'm building the high bar currently for my "jungle gym." I have the rings already, just haven't built a frame for them yet. Its pretty hard to keep something nearly 16 feet tall stable enough to swing from. Here is a picture of the high bar

Just imagine the support coming off the side toe-nailed in and buried and concreted in the ground, then another one on the other side.

*edit
Ok Im having huge troubles with the picture. Here's a link for now but Ill get it no-clickied

Greta move -eventually anyway. A high bar is a critical component for training for the vault.

Yeah, I had to take it apart early this morning to get it out of the garage.. I got too excited and built it in there not realizing it won't come out. I'm putting it all together this evening after school, so I'll take pictures then.

While you are taking photos, get some close ups of the construction details such as the joints. Also, how do you plan to secure the sideways diagonal braces to the the ground?

It looks like you have done a nice job with that.

That's a cool set up.

I want to build one in the ground in my backyard. Problem is finding posts that are long enough. If I go three feet down i will need at least 12 foot posts. If I want to have the option of rings, they probably have to be 16 feet. Anyone have any ideas?

I am also planning on putting one in at my place this spring/summer, so I'll be very interested in hearing how it works out.

I have 14' 6x6's which will go 4' in the ground. That gives me a high bar around around 9' to 10' high. I set up my rings, trapeze, climbing rope, vault trainer, swing trainer, and invert device from the ceiling of my mini-gym which is around 16' 6" high.

I secured them with concrete. I just buried them under about 60lbs of concrete each. I'm having a terrible time trying to upload/resize these images, so please just look at them as big as they are to sorta get the idea of the whole thing. These pictures are huge.

I haven't nailed the side braces in yet because I'm waiting on the concrete to dry first.

Ok they're not nearly as big as I thought they were. nevermind what I said about that.
