Question on PV scholarships...

At what height do you think colleges start looking at vaulters seriously for scholarships? And what else do you think are determining factors?

It depends on where you wanna go. If you wanna go D1 or if you just wanna vault in college. You can go NAIA and get a great scholorship for around 15-15'6 easy. D1 will take around 16-17 is my guess. Not sure considering im a NAIA vaulter. But I think that would be a good start..good luck by the way

I was looking through naia schools... not bad... all i really want to do is vault in college and get a good education.

It varies a ton by school, and it will vary from year to year depending on who they currently have on their team. The best way to find the answer to your question is to email the coaches at every school you are interested in and ask them.

yeah sweet man...you should head up to IUPUI friday. Every vaulter in Indiana other than IU PU and Notre Dame will be there for "Little State." it should be a good competition for you to check out some NAIA vaulters

Around where I live I know 14' guys that have gotten full rides to really small colleges... mostly that are trying to start a track program.

D1 you need about 14 to walk on.
15-17 gets parcial scholarships
17'6ish gets in free

Some schools even have on their website what standards they look for for scholarships, like I saw where Appalachin starts giving scholarships at 14'6

i'm kinda too poor to go to college and pay for it on my own, and since my parents make so much and don't contribute any of it to me, i can't even get federal help until i'm 25. so pole vault has always been what felt like my chance to be able to afford college if i can get some good heights in.

If you search the forum, you'll find better threads that discuss how high you need to vault to get any money in college.

Counting on vault to pay for school is a horrible idea. What are you going to do if something happens and you lose your vault scholarship?

I suggest you seriously apply yourself to some academic and merit based scholarships. There are zillions of them out there. You should also consider starting at a Junior College. There are JCs with good vault programs, and you'll save a ton of money in the process.

i've been out of HS for 3 years now, so my GPA still stands at about a 3.0... but i guess i could always still apply for academic scholarships.

i dont know your personal situation, but if your parents wont help you any you could amancipate yourself and go off of your own financial backings.

I know a teacher at my school that did that when he turned 18 and he got a full financial scholarship. Because in his case he was a senior in high school who had no job so when it asked for annual income he could honestly put down $0 because by law his parents weren't his "legal" parents.
