Rory Quiller gets 2nd at USAs!!

OK I don't think he actually gets to make the world team because he doesn't have the 5.70 standard. Sad!

But to go out there and PR and beat a field like that is outstanding.

Quiller 'phenomenal' in best-ever vault
From staff reports
Post Comment

One day after winning his fourth America East Conference indoor pole vault title, Binghamton U. graduate student Rory Quiller finished second on Saturday with a best-ever vault of 18-4 3/4 in his first appearance at the U.S. Indoor National Track & Field Championships at Boston's Reggie Lewis Center.

Quiller finished behind Brad Walker (18-8 1/4), the 2007 world outdoor pole-vault champion.

Quiller's vault was the highest ever by a collegian in the northeast region, according to BU men's track coach Mike Thompson.

"It was a phenomenal day for him," Thompson said. "He showed how good he is, jumping against some of the best guys in the nation."

Last week, in a tri-meet against Albany and Syracuse at the Binghamton U. Events Center, Quiller jumped his previous best of 18-1 1/4.

He needs another quarter-inch to achieve a provisional qualification in June's Olympic trials, Thompson said. If Quiller can achieve an 18-8, he'll get an automatic bid, providing his jump is among the 24 highest in the nation.

It said he needs another quarter inch to hit the provisional mark? I thought the B Standard was 5.50?

A country who historically comes out with medals does not normally send B standard athletes. I think Quiller has a good future ahead.

Rory has a great future ahead of him, not only is he a very hard working athlete, but he is one of the nicest kids you will ever meet. His take off is strong and he is holding high on some enormous poles. he will def be in the running for the trials.

Way to go Rory

His 5.60 had plenty of room. Definitely more height over it than Miles or Stevenson. Too bad he couldn't get 5.70 for a spot at the WC.
