big dog poles

Unread postby Skyin' Brian » Fri Jul 25, 2003 6:04 pm

just curious does anyone know what size poles the best vaulters are jumping on. are most girls still on 14'? what about the guys? i was watching the 2001 world champs in canada and some coaches were sitting behind me talking about pole length and how one of the australians, i think christiakov, had bigger poles in his bag than anyone has jumped on. like 17'6" or something. anyway, i was just wondering what everyone knows about this stuff.

I know Mel Mueller has jumped on a 15' 170 carbon mystic. Although I believe now she is on 14'6"

Mel has a seris of 15'6" poles.......Just needs one more (a little smaller) to properly get into the series.........and her 15 and 15'6" poles are Cabon FX.

When I was in JB Jeff told me he made his 6.03 on a 5.20 10.8. I dont think they even put weight on poles that big, as weight is really an arbitrary number. No matter what way you skin it, those poles are HUGE. I have heard that Brits was on a 5.20 9.something, and Jacob Davis had a 5.20 9.6. Markov was also on some pretty hefty 5.20's. These guys are all freaks
