Scott jumped 16'6" tonight to win the NC State Championship and set a new Indoor State Record. Way to Go Scott! 
He also had a couple of really good looks at 17' (height is not an issue) Oh and by the way he has made a decision as to where he will commit. And I know but I swore I wouldn't tell.

Houston shatters own pole vault mark

CHAPEL HILL -- Scott Houston continues to make a name for himself in the pole-vaulting world.
The Northwest Guilford senior soared over the bar at a state record 16 feet, 6 inches in the N.C. High School Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championship at North Carolina's Eddie Smith Fieldhouse on Saturday.
"It was definitely a great day," said Houston, after receiving hugs and handshakes from his out-of-breath teammates."
Houston shattered the previous state indoor record of 15-3 that he set at the 2007 state meet. Second-place finisher, Matthews Butler's Stephen Hodapp, only reached 14 feet.
Spectators egged on Houston as he raced down the track. Their claps became a crescendo, leading to a roar of cheers as he cleared the bar.
Northwest Guilford track coach Charlie Rhodes said the crowd probably has never seen a high school athlete jump as high. Rhodes said Houston has improved his jumps nearly 4 feet since 2005.
"It's just unbelievable," Rhodes said. "It's unbelievable."
Rhodes gives Eric Morell the credit for Houston's improvement. Morell, a former collegiate pole vaulter, has been working with Houston and others at his Greensboro summer camp called Vaulthouse.
"Well, I'm just happy for him because he's been working really hard," Morell said. "The past two summers he's been working really hard, working on all the parts of the jump.
"So, all the work that he's done has paid off," Morell said.
On Jan. 5, Scott became the best pole vaulter in North Carolina prep history at the National Pole Vault Summit in Reno, Nev. He reached a personal best of 16-103/4.
With his skills, Houston has become somewhat of an ambassador for the pole vault competition in North Carolina.
Most standouts hail from California or Texas. Houston is second behind California's Nico Weiler, whose indoor personal best is 17-2.
"North Carolina is not known for pole vaulting," Morell said. "So Scott is actually showing people that it can be done,"
Houston failed in an attempt to jump 17-0 on Saturday. He said he'll continue to work on his takeoff -- maintaining his posture, keeping his arms up and hitting his steps at the end of the track.
"You wanna shorten and speed up your steps, so you can do a better jump in the takeoff," he said. "It worked for 16-6 and 17-0 is coming."
Houston's decision about where he'll attend college also is coming. Most athletes signed letters of intent Wednesday -- National Signing Day -- but Houston said he'll announce his decision today. His top two choices are Virginia Tech and North Carolina.
Morell gave a hint to Houston's choice. "I think people will be happy with his answer," he said.
