That's a very good way of looking at this, KC!

I hadn't thought about the takeoff this way before! In fact, it never even occurred to me to glean anything from the sound track of PV vids!

haha, thanks for the tips guys. I had a VERY productive practice, yesterday. My 1's and 2's in the sand felt great (very little slamming into the pole), but my 3's still felt a little out of control. I think that's an issue with plant though. Any thoughts?? -6P

Just ask yourself what are you doing in the plant and take off to cause the loud noise?

I'm honestly not sure. I just watched the vaults in the pit and I didn't notice anything different. The only thing I can think of might be that i'm planting late and my unextended shoulders aren't absorbing the impact (stretching) and it's causing the pole to hit the back of the box, harder. I'm not sure

You are leaning back a little bit at take off making it to where your hands are not catching as high as they could be. Also though you are jumping up decent you have better jumping ability then you are showing in this vid. If you literally try to jump over the plug, and get you hands up to catch at the highests possible point there will be very little noise. It's even possible if you were doing this with the 10-6 grip you might completely jump over the plug of the pole. Though I would suggest working your grip up 6-8 inches higher next practice and really force yourself to have to jump up and catch higher.

what do you mean? as in push of the ground harder/more?? thanks for the clarification

kcvault: sounds like a plan brotha. I think i was just so caught up on trying to build speed from a 3-left approach, that i wasn't quickening the cadence of my run (causing me to over-stride), and this led to the lack of jumping, the slam of the pole into the box, and in turn, the out of control finish of the drill.

Can't jump from a run. Do alot of lay-ups on the basketball court. Jagodins at least 5 feet over standing grip. Refer to previous post. Come to my Christmas Clinic.

I think what golfdane meant was that your feet should be dorsi flexed throughout the walking drill

Exactly. You should not be tip-toeing this drill (or any walking or running drill). Watch Isi on her walking drills on the BTB DVD. It might seem trivial, but it is important to teach you body a sound movement pattern, even in slow motion.
