back pain

my backs been really tight lately, especially after running for a period of time... do i apply ice or heat?

i always hear ice, but thats just what i do. people who already inflame muscles and joints buy applying heat after an injury/pull/strain are crazy. however, if its just normal morning stiffness before you run, heat can help loosen your back up. ice all the way on injuries for me

try to heat for rougly 15 minutes before practice and make sure to stretch, and after practice always apply ice. You definitely don't want to go to heating after you work that muscle group. Stick with heat before, ice after, and ice again even later that night after practice.

Having gone through extensive physical therapy after surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff, I can attest to the "begin with heat - end with ice" routine. Heat, warm up, stretch, exercise, ice, rest/recover.

I envy you. Your back problem can be fixed with a little ice and heat. I'm taking over a year off from all sports (because everything hurts...even swimming) and having back surgery this summer. Take care of yourself!!

yea...I'm broken..good news is that surgery will probably result in full recovery! and I'll be vaulting sooooon!! and running too...oiy how I miss it.

Last year at take off I got ripped really hard and over arched my back and in the process I pulled all of the supporting muscles and strained the ligaments and tendents across my back and mainly my spine. I took one whole week off of doing nothing but stretching, heating, and Icing. My muscles took 4 weeks to heal but the ligaments across my spine took all season and into a good part of the summer. So I found that just being cautious of what you do and making sure to strech EXTREMELY well before and after you vault. But only time will make it heal bud. so be careful with it.

Well, what i would do is get a back massage. Ya know, by a friend who is a girl, who is very good looking, and good at massages. It relieves the pain very quickly, and.... yup.
