lol just kidding, the guy is talented and even if it means id have to pull off a miracle to compete with him, i would love to see him jump as high as he possibly can. This year will be really exciting.

Yes. He can compete this year. And he will probably go to college in the US too. So, be prepared for the possibility of having a German vaulter hold our national HS record.

I think he will too, probably indoors and outdoors. Here's why:
1. Not many saw it, but he *barely* missed 17-10 last year.
2. He's grown at least an inch.
3. He's *much* more fit this year; faster and hitting the weights hard.
4. He's getting the top of his vault straightened out.
Regarding colleges, my understanding is that he's open to going anywhere that has a good program and will give him some financial aid. Most of his exposure is obviously to California schools.
