Last attempts at 5.50.

Landers comes through and makes the bar on his third attempt, moving him into second place for the time being.

Pratt makes it on his third (relief from the crowd) and now he moves into second place behind Skipper.

Scotten is up for his third. He has the height but hits the bar on the way up. He is now out of the competition after jumping 5.45.

Mondschein just barely misses after hitting the bar on the way down. He's out after jumping 5.45.

The bar moves to 5.55 with four left in the competition (Landers of UCLA, Pratt of BYU, Russell of Akron *who has only two attempts after this height after passing after his first miss at 5.50*, and Skipper of Oregon).

Landers takes the first attempt at 5.55 and misses.

Pratt passes and Russell runs through, so he has one more attempt left in the competition.

Skipper follows Pratt and passes.

Landers is up again, gets the clap, yet comes up and doesn't finish the vault. He has two misses at this height.

Russell is up for his last attempt. The cross wind is back and he's trying to wait it out. Time's running out, so he attempts but runs through. He's done after clearing 5.45.

Landers has a good third attempt but misses. He gets third place and is out of the competition after clearing 5.50.

The meet is down to a competition for first between Pratt and Skipper.

Pratt is currently in second on misses after missing twice at 5.50. Tommy has none.

The bar moves to 5.60.

Pratt runs up on his first attempt before walking back and trying it again. He comes up and doesn't finish the vault. He has one miss at this height.

Tommy's fan club is providing another clap. He comes up and makes it on his first attempt. He has a lot of height, but that time seemed to drift towards his left standard. Nevertheless, he makes it and is congratulated with applause.

Pratt's up for his first attempt at 5.65. He misses, knocking the bar down on the way up and must settle for second place after clearing 5.50.

Skipper wins the Men's Division 1 NCAA Pole Vault title...now the question is where he's going to decide to put his bar.

18' 08.25" is what he'll go for now.

For those of you who are more comfortable with metric, that's 5.70.

The crowd goes wild (really) as Tommy makes it over on his first attempt. He has the height but the drift's still there.

His next bar will be at 19'2.25" or 5.85.

If he makes 5.85, he will beat the NCAA meet best of 5.82m set on May 29, 1996 by Lawrence Johnson.

Tommy gets stood up on his first. (Side note: Perhaps a clap that's synchronized might help him get over. :P)

The clapping was a little more in sync, but not enough. Tommy comes up and doesn't turn up on it. Two misses. One more attempt for the record. He already has the title.
