a "free" pole drop is helpful.. but most don't understand the concept.. gravity will help bring the tip down.. the vaulter just doesn't need to "interfere" and time it properly so the "tip is down and the grip is up" just before takeoff...

something like that dj. There are however more things involved. For example the timing of the start of the drop position of hands, etc. However, I think it does not (anymore) pertains to a particular vaulting school Russian or American. Everyone is doing it with some variations. What is truly different, by the way Russian school lost it lately, is the focus on athletic output in every part of the jump (vault).
