i was being stupid and went snowboarding on new years eve. i was holding myself back from doing anything too crazy, but i just caught an edge and went over. it doesnt look like ill be able to jump this spring and the doc says it could be a year before it's 100 percent again. every thing is the same with tennessee and the coaches werent really upset, but i will most likely wind up redshirting next year.

I broke my left one snowboarding on Christmas Eve, getting ready for my first big air competition, during my Sophomore season in College. My coaches were not happy. I was practicing in the park and I kid fell on top of a table top behind the lip. I didn't see him until I was about to throw a flip. When I saw him standup I realized I was about to take his head off so I tried to turn even though I was already leaning back. I went off the side of the jump and fell about 25' to the flat where I landed on my head and left shoulder. It was one the most haunting sounds I have ever heard. The left clavical broke in two pieces with sharp ends which turned down and tore into the top of my left peck. My chest was black and blue and yellow for the first two weeks. I redshirted indoors, but slowly started jumping on soft poles 3-4 weeks after the accident still wearing a brace. I was in the wieght room everyday doing everything that did not hurt. I'm sure you are taking tons of Calcium and Magnesium but make sure you take Lysing as well, otherwise you won't absord the calcium, it will just be flushed out of your system. If you take all that stuff you will heal much faster.
Don't let it get you down. Things happen for a reason. That inury was one of the best things that happend to me, because I got so pissed about not being able to jump, it was all I ever thought about. And when I could jump again, I took it up with much more passion and appreciation. And outdoors I went from a 15' guy to a 16'7" guy in a few months.
-You'll be fine, best of luck with the healing process.

thanks for the advise vaultninja. i would be in the weight room and doing everything else that doesnt hurt, but my doctor told me that i shouldnt put any stress on either my right or left arm(i broke my left clavicle too), and im listening because i dont want to do anything that might prolong the healing process and keep me away from vaulting longer. i broke mine in four places and had surgey on it to put a temporary pin in it. ill have to go back in 3 or 4 months to get it taken out. hopefully i will be able to do some light vaulting on soft poles by then. i know that feeling of falling from that far though, last year i over shot a landing on this one kicker that was 17-18 feet high with a good 40-45 foot gap. i landed in the flat 50 feet from the bottom of the landing. ive never hit the ground so hard in my life.
