It looks like they are going to show the pole vault on TV starting at 10pm Eastern.

Check it again! It is final now!

when does all the mens vault stuff start?
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali

That Sixth-Place Tie
I'll leave analysing the top results to someone who may have been fortunate enough to see all the attempts of the top vaulters, except to note that the first five places were in exact order of the seasonal bests of those place-winners.
What caught my eye was the devastating effect of the six-inch raise from 4.40m to 4.55m. For five of the eleven vaulters still in the competition after 4.40, 4.55m would have been a new personal best. Given the pressure of the Olympics, adding an attempt at a PB is a very tall order of challenge. Only Anzhela Balakhonova (UKR), of the four athletes who finished in a six-place tie had bettered 4.55, with a personal best of 4.57. The other three, Naroa Agirre (ESP), with 4.47; Vanessa Boslak (FRA), with 4.51; and Dana Ellis (CAN), with 4.43, were looking at heights above the national records they held. Stephanie McCann (CAN) Pavla Hamackova (CZE), .ere at and Katerina Badurova (CZE) also were attempting new PRs at 4.55m.
Maybe a 10-centimeter raise would have made for a fairer, and more interesting competition?

Sixth-place Tie, again
Sorry for a typo in my earlier post. Hamackova wasn't attempting a new PB at 4.55. (She improved the CZE record to 4.60 in 2003.) I was trying to delete that phrase when the excitement got to me and I choked.
