weight workouts that are easy on the back?

Unread postby ennairb » Mon Mar 15, 2004 12:23 pm

hey guys!

im out for the season because of too many bad concussions in a really short period of time ... i finally got cleared to hit the gym and work on my strength  so i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on certain exercises that would be helpful to my vaulting when im allowed to go back - the only thing is they can't be too stressful on the back (like no cleans or anything they said) because i also totally unaligned my entire back and neck at the same time that i got the concussions - fun times lol - but any suggestions would be great :star:

yea i am seeing a chiropractor and its really helping :) - i have to do physical therapy 3 times a week with him until half way through the summer at the very least - so thats kind of a bummer ... but it has helped soooo sooo much!! there's even this really cool thing that they do to me like once a week ... laser acupuncture - it's just like acupunture but it's not invasive - so instead of needles they use like these lasers so it's not scary lol - and there's actually certain sites that help to relieve the symptoms of post concussion syndrome  so the chiropractor has indirectly helped my head while hes fixing my neck and back - this is the best i've felt since i got the initial injuries - i wish i had gone sooner :star:

Awesome :star:

There's a chiropractic school near here, so I get to go in and it is only 5 dollars a visit  The girl I work with used to triple jump, so she knows all about track and field.

anyone know the difference between a chiropractor and a physical therapist? i know my dad was a physical therapist, but i dont know of any chiropractors, except an (unfounded) notion that they would be more painful...in terms of workouts, i dont think you'll be able to do any explosive exercises (i.e. olympic lifting) or hard compound leg exercises (i.e. squats, lunges)....i would focus on isolation excercises, i.e. leg extension for quads, hamstring curls, and calf raises for legs, and for shoulders, iinstead of standing cleans and presses, i'd do seated with a machine or dumbbelss with back support, and probably also wear a belt...hope that might help.

i think the diff. is that cyropractors just specialize on back problems and and fisical thearopists specialize in a bunch on things.

P.S.
sorry bought the spelling

Chiropractors manipulate the spine to fix the whole body. Mine does massage stuff and stuff that I have done in physical therapy before.

hmmm...many physical therapists focus on certain parts of the body, i.e. my dad had his own method (yes, it was called the hesch method) that focused on pelvis problems that would benefit back problems as well as headaches, and i also know foot doctors who relieve foot problems to help back, neck etc. so i still dont see big difference....both seem to specialize in one part to benefit the whole, andi know a big part of physical therapy was manipulating joints...

I never thought you would go to a chiropractor

yea i don't really know the difference between the 2 either - i have to do my physical therapy at my chiropractors office though - he has this whole room set up with just special exercise equipment that is used for therapy and stuff ... so i guess he kind of does both? lol

There is a wide variety of chiropractors and chiropractic tech. What you find is going to depend on what state you live in and what chripractic college your chiropractor went to.

For example in WA a chiropractor cann't do any physical therapy by law. Which is why I practice here. Even though I am certified to do physical therapy and have spent enough time in the training room during my athletic career. I feel more comfortable referring to some one who has had specific training for several years in the particular field. So I reffer to a couple of pt's in the area that I have talked with and we understand what each one of us is triing to acomplish w/ the patient. The same goes with chiropractic I think it is better to focus on being a chiropractor and master that, then being a jack of all trades and master of none.

When I have a little more time I'll explain the diferences.
