if you want to relate peaking to Bubka you had better start talking about how drug testing has changed since his day as well.

Too many variables in the vault to really peak. You can peak physically, but that alone doesnt guarantee any success.
Retain faith that you will prevail in the end, regardless of the difficulties.

yes, a physical peak does not guarantee success, but it doesnt in other events either. doing things right at your physical peak inyour season will bring peak results. the way some of the arguments against peaking are stated in this thread seem to downplay the importance of good training. if your goal for every meet is to set a p.r. then you are setting yourself up for disappiontment. i would much rather do well at the end of the season than jump my highest in my first couple of meets.

So you're suggesting that Sergey is a cheater (having used illegal performane-enhancing drugs) ? Is this a commonly accepted opinion?

Ok no more unfounded drug accusations or you will be banned. Unless there is proof or the athlete has admitted it, keep it to yourself.

Yes this board is not going to become letsrun.com. Keep your suspicions to yourself unless you have something to back them up.

Peaking - elite versus college?

Unread postby completemadness » Sun Feb 08, 2004 6:29 pm

Interesting it is very difficult, having been through this when I was at College in the US, to combine a college career as a vaulter with an elite one. Very few people have managed to pull this off.

The problem is that if you are aiming for NCAA then your focus is on a competition in the middle of May, whereas the elite is to aim for a competition in the middle of August or even September (Sydney). It is why traditionally US collegiate vaulters do really well at trials and then struggle in the European season.

Tim Lobinger is a good example of the other side of the fence, he just tries to jump as high as possible every week, and competes over 50 times a season, yep, on average over one comp per week....
