what methods does everyone use when travleing with poles with a small car(2 door honda prelude)

i drive a small car and the towel method hasn't failed me yet.

I bought some foam kayak carriers...cheap..... place on top of the car and rope them down... found them on ebay.....

2 pieces of rope, each one about 4 feet long. Take the ends of each and knot them together (big knot). Now you have 2 loops. Slide them toward the ends of your pole case. Open the trunk and hood. Insert knots inside both and close them. You might put a towel between the poles and the door to prevent scratching. Make sure your knot placement keeps the poles above the tires.
We use this method when we rent cars after plane trips. It takes about 60 seconds to load up two pole cases and be on our way out of the airport terminal.

I have literally done this all over the world. It is the best. Just make sure your knots are big enough!

I'm reviving this old thread because I don't quite understand the how the "towel" method works? Are the poles on the outside? Could someone PLEASE post some pictures? thanks!

Ah yes that does help! Thank you so much! What part of the car did you tie it to under the hood?
And you're sure that I can't get in trouble for hooking them on the outside of a car like that?

Check your state laws on how far something can extend beyond the back of the car before you need to tie a red flag on it. I think here in WA it's like 4 feet.

That's EXACTLY how I've been transporting my poles for the past couple summers!
