Essx, I was messing around with your pole calculator and the link to convert lbs to kg for current power weight links to the top of the page and not a converter. Besides that the calculator is pretty interesting.

Thanks you are correct there is bug. I have to go back and correct that part thank you for calling it to my attention. 2.2 lbs to each power number works though.

Question for ya. I was using your calculator, but I didn't quite understand the results. I entered in a hand grip of 14'9" (177") with a PR of 15'6"(186"). Then where it lists length.... my results showed a best choice pole of 480cm(15.744in). Does this mean that the next pole in the series that would best fit me is 15.744" longer then the one I'm on now? This is confusing....If I'm confused I'm sure there are others also. Could you explain this..

We do not know what weight size you inputted, but if you are on poles above your weight then moving to a longer pole will be the next progression for you assuming your 14'9" grip is on a 15'-15'3" pole now.

IF holding 14'9" with a PR of 15'6" which is very good by the way. The calculator is saying you can move to a longer size pole. A 15.744 inch pole is a 15'9" pole with a grip area of 14'6" to 15'6" In this case the calculator has computed that you are ready to move up in length.
If you feel this is too much of a jump you can stay on a 15'+ pole first. Just add 2 power numbers to the results you got and select a 15'+ pole.
The example below was made using weight of 160 as I did not know what your weight is?


RESULTS Length Power Weight

Suggested Poles 480cm 15.744" 74 kilo 162.8 lbs.
Best Choice 480cm 15.744" 75 kilo 165.0 lbs.
1 fist grip up 480cm 15.744" 76 kilo 167.2 lbs.
For a longer pole 480cm 15.744" 75 kilo 165.0 lbs.

Keep in mind/an accomplaished vaulter at your level may use something stiffer. As in the instructions it states to add 1-2 power numbers if you are jumping a foot over your hand hold.

Notice the calculator suggest for a longer pole a stiffer one instead in this case!

Thanks for the clarification. Makes perfect sense now. I will be purchasing 2-3 poles very soon and this will obviously have an immediate impact. I weigh around 190lbs... I would like to give the Essx pole a try, but I've had pretty good success with Spirit poles and I'm kinda skeptical to switch. But anyway, a whole other topic there. Thanks again!!!

You are correct we are talking about 15.744 feet not inches

It is confusing as 15.744 is decimal for 15’9â€Â

OK. Then I think some changes to the calculator would help in understanding this. On the calculator it shows this as inches... as in 15.744 inches not feet. I would have caught on to this immediately. So just a note, that the units on the results table aren't listed properly.
