In HS are you allowed to wear eyewear (sunglasses) during meets? i know about headbands and jewelry but what about sunglasses?

Most states will not let you vault with shades on unless you can prove that they are perscription sunglasses.

My experience with sunglasses was odd...I prefer to wear them because my contacts make my eyes more sensitive to light, and I don't like squinting. Most meets they let me (They were plastic sunglasses). The odd thing though, I was allowed to at Districts (Step 1 to State), but not at Sectionals (Step 2), then they let me at State...go figure

I don't think there is an actual NFHS rule about wearing sunglasses. I've never been to a meet where its been a problem, but I guess it would be up to the head official....

I sometimes wear them on bright days so that my eyes can relax and because a lot of pits in texas seems so best east/west. I've never heard they're illegal, though i could see them being banned by an officious official.

Yeah, im almost 100% positive there is no rule against wearing sunglasses, because 1) some people vault with regular glasses and 2) other events its allowed.

I have only vaulted in sunglasses a couple times, but it has actually been more difficult for me to jump. I worry too much about them and it distractes me.

You just have to convince the official that the glasses are equipment and not a fashion item. Although there is no limit to how dumb some of us officials can be, most will acquiesce if you claim that it keep pit crud and wind out of your eyes, especially if you wear contact lenses.

In Massachusetts we've been warned that sunglasses constitutes "jewelry" and thus cannot be worn during competitions :-(

the problem with glasses is, if you make the bar and they fail to follow you over (ie fall off), it is counted as a miss
