what do you think
my goal is to be on a 14 165 spirit by the end of the year. im currently on a 13 160 skypole but im sorta blowin through, so i was thinkin i could go to a 13 6 180 skypole, and then if possible, a 14 165 spirit. is this a good way to go about it?

They were just trying to help keep you safe!
If those are the only 3 poles your school has you have a few options. You could buy yourself some more poles. Can't afford that? Borrow some. Not an option? Stay on the 13'160 but move your run in a stride. This will slow you down and keep you from blowing through... until you improve more anyway.

Hey RS - if you would have prefaced you comments with these are the only poles we have - you may have gotten a much different response - The beg and barrow does work sometimes - the school next door may be willing to swap poles - If you are in the area I have a 13-170 you can borrow.
Plant like crap sometimes ok most times
RS,
I want to add my name to the list that'd like to help you.
I have a 13'6-165 Rocket Pole (based on comments that others have made on this Board, it appears that a Rocket is the same pole as a Skypole but with a different label). If you or your school would be willing to pay for the shipping, I'll send it to you. The shipping will probably be about $50. The pole is practically brand new - less than 50 jumps on it.
A 13'6-165 may be about right as the next intermediate step. If the rule of thumb is right, the extra six inches would add about 10 lbs. in stiffness, and because it is a 165 and you are currently using a 160, that's another 5 lbs., so the 13'6-165 would actually be approx. 15 lbs stiffer than what you are currently using (13-160). Even that may be too drastic an increase. What do the rest of you guys think? Would a 13'6-165 be an okay pole for RS to try next? Or is even that too radical a jump-up in stiffness?
Let's see what some of the folks who really know their poles think (like the Wookie), and then let me know if you want to take me up on my offer. Like I said, if you (or your school) will agree to pay for the shipping, then just give me your address & I'll send it your way.

The main problem here is you posted on April 1 (april fools day). It was tough to tell who was BSing and who was not. Relax, we all want to help. no one intended to make you mad.
The problem you have is a 13 160 is like a 14 145-150 or a 13 6 150-155. To get to a 14 165 you need several poles.
What you should be looking for is a 13 6 155 (next stiffer pole, longer length), bump your grip 2 fingers higher. If you have tried the 13 6 180 and even come close to getting into the pit you MIGHT get away with a 13 6 160 or 165. If you have actually gotten on the 13 6 180 then the next pole up would be a 14 175. If you go to the 14 165 its actually smaller than the 13 6 180.
The poles you need............
Use your 13 160 then,
13 6 155
13 6 160
13 6 165
13 6 170
then use your 14 165
Increase your grip SLOWLY (1 to 2 fingers at a time). If you start overbending the pole you have created a problem, stop raising your grip and work on technique. As Bruce has posted before, learn to jump high not grip high!!

In the same boat
I'm horribly blowing through a 13'6" 160 Skypole as well, and have been on a 14' 150 UCS before this, so moving up to 14' doesn't phase me. I weigh 157, and am looking towards getting a 14' 165lb UCS Spirit. This seems like a big jump from what I've heard, but I should be able to get on it, right?
