One of the first things to break on a pit always seems to be those buckles on the top pad. I learned a trick from Dick Henrie in Bellingham, WA for keeping those old pits together.

If a ring has broken, take a zip tie through where it connected and make a loop out of it. If a buckle has broken, use a caribiner instead. You can zip tie and caribiner the whole pit together if it's in bad enough shape!

Sometimes a single ply top pad over the old top pad works great.
If the pad does not fit the outside dimensions perfectly, simply get some light weight rope and tie it to what ever is available on the sides.
It works great!
