Is it me or are Altius poles more beginner poles.

They are only beginner poles if you don't know how to jump.
Lane Lohr jumped pretty damn high on those.

The company is just much smaller, so it's not the most popular pole on the market. Here's a list of a few vaulters that have used them over the past few years:
Spencer McCorkel (17'09")

Jeremy Willis (16'02.5")
Sam Ewing - Freshmen (15'07")
Shade Weygandt (13'08")
Stephanie Foreman (13'02")

They're a great pole at a great price. Just not much marketing goes into them!

5.70 I jumped 5.72 on them. Bill switched to Pacer's in 1990

The Altius poles are literally heavier than the poles manufactured by bigger brands, such as UCS or Pacer.
