Do you think this is safe. My pole is rated at 145 lbs. and I weigh about 145lbs. although it rises up and down throughout the day. My pole is about 14 feet long. Also this is my first year so please bear with me.

lol...it's not that big of a deal, especailly if you arn't bending it. The only time you need to worry about a pole is if you are overbending it.

Whether it's safe or not depends on whose scales you use!

In your wise and experienced personal opinion do you think bending a pole that supports 5 pounds less than your weight is okay?

That completely depends on the vaulter. Some vaulters think that the more bend they get the higher they will jump...which is absolutly false. Those people tend to want to get on smaller poles because they bend so much, and that is extremely dangerous. But, for vaulters that vault correctly, is should not be that big of a problem (unless the pole is way to soft for the vaulter, but again, that depends on several things.)

I'm a swing vaulter, and I can't get on as big of poles as other power-vaulter type jumpers. I jumped my PR on a pole that is "5 lbs under" my weight. But I was also holding about a foot down on it.

its fine for the beginers with a weaker plant that cant bend the pole, but once you develop your drive you shouldnt do it, i got on a pole that was 50 lbs over my weight, and my coach thought i was overbending it

It can be safe, but it is 100% illegal if you're in high school or middle school.
