when to move to a longer pole...

Highly agree. keep your hips back until the last possible moment. get the pole to verticle, finish you swing, come off straight along the pole. you keep pushing the pole back to the runway when you turn and lose a lot of energy. Work less pushing off the pole and more getting thrown by the pole. If you 40 lbs ovewr, you don't need to push off the top so much. anyway, be patient on top. you might need a slightly lighter pole or a slightly lower hand grip (5lbs or 1 grip should do) if you can't get the one your on to get to verticle, but you will definetly go higher.
