Possible New Airline for Poles

Unread postby Barto » Fri May 19, 2006 5:35 pm

I just got word that US Airways is carrying some poles for flights to Nike Nationals next month. If everyone calls and requests permission ahead of time, then they should be able to use US Airways to fly poles in the future.

I actually was on the phone with US Air yesterday trying to help a teammate.

They say they will take poles for FREE! (One bag in lieu of a piece of luggage, and of course you have to make sure the plane is going to be big enough).

If the person at baggage is having trouble looking up the policy, have them look under sporting equipment and the lookup code is RHIWHR.

I have a number of airline updates to make, it probably won't happen for a bit, but I will update those pages eventually.

America West Airlines, which is now owned by US Airways, flies poles for free in lieu of a checked bag. My son and I flew our poles to Reno from Milwaukee on AW in January. They do a great job and we encountered no hassles at all. The policy on the web talks in terms of one pole and that's what my son and I had, one pole each, but there were any number of folks checking in pole bags with multiple poles in them without any questions asked.
May the Force be with you!

Yeah America West has been like that for awhile. I asked the guy at US Air if they had the same baggage policies, and he said for now each airline still has separate baggage policies.

It's great they both fly poles for free!

Just talked with Northwest and they will take poles and their container as long as it is 16 feet or less and 50 lbs or less.

Yeah I need to update Northwest's info page. I know a lot of people who have taken Northwest with no trouble.

Guys I had MAJOR trouble with USAirways getting poles on the plane in San Juan. They didnt want to take them and then after about an hour haggling they charged me $80.

One guy on the phone said yes they take poles, one at the counter said no they do not, and a second person on the phone said they do not.
